Chris Ivory has had issues playing through boo boos his entire career and his start with the Jets hasn’t started off on the right foot. A hamstring injury has already sidelined him in training camp, so it’s time for next man up. The next man is Bilal Powell.
Last season, we had to watch the plodding Shonn Greene get the majority of the touches and still not get it done. Powell is nothing special himself, but he can catch and pass protect, so his value is on the rise. If Ivory misses time (likely) this season, Powell could be a flex option on the weeks he starts. Rex Ryan had this to say about Powell after the Jets scrimmage: “Powell did run the ball hard,” coach Rex Ryan said. “Now, obviously with the opportunity he’s been given, he’s really taken the reins.”
