Brandon Weeden has flashed potential this season, but there is a very good chance that the Browns will have a whole new front office and coaching staff in 2013. Weeden needs to prove that he can lead this team in the near future and may be on audition for the rest of the season. The present coach Pat Shurmur tries to explain what’s going on with the Browns’ offense.
Shurmur said, “We talk about what the plays are going to be. We have them written down; we just don’t make them up as we go. Then there’s also getting different players in the game because we use multiple players. There’s a lot that goes on. That’s where we need to be better in all of that and make sure it happens. That’s something that we’re going to talk about. I’ll take full responsibility for all of it. I think we can streamline some things to help the players execute better.” Weeden’s status going forward will be decided by CEO Joe Banner and owner Jimmy Haslam. Banner said, “It’s right to put Brandon on the list of important things we have to figure out and we have seven games left to do that. It’s an extremely important question for this organization to get right. You can’t win big without a great coach and a great quarterback.”
Weeden has the arm and has young weapons that can grow together over the next couple of years. It remains to be seen if the new regime will keep him around long enough to find out.
