Last season Cam Newton went to the Pro Bowl and pretty much acted a fool with his fellow NFL brethren. His maturity or lack thereof really rubbed a lot of the players the wrong way.
Pete Prisco: “The reason: Newton dissed some of his brethren at the Pro Bowl,” Prisco wrote. “According to several players in the game, some from both teams, Newton’s standoffish, diva ways made him enemy No. 1 in the eyes of some of the players.”
“So when Newton turned down one player’s request for an autograph and a picture for his kids at a function, it angered the player,” Prisco added. “That player said Newton did the unthinkable and even dissed Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis.
“Said another player: ‘It didn’t matter who it was, he didn’t care about anybody but himself.’”
Has this attitude spilled over to the 2012 season. Maybe it has.
Pat Yasinskas: “What does last season’s Pro Bowl have to do with what’s happening with Newton and the Panthers this season? Perhaps a lot. If Newton’s teammates perceive him the same way the players at the Pro Bowl did, he might not be a popular figure in the locker room. If your quarterback isn’t popular in the locker room, that’s never a good thing. That (as well as a bad defense) might be a major reason why the Panthers are 3-9.”
