It doesn’t look like Ced Benson was brought into Green Bay to chill on the sidelines. James Starks is injured still and reportedly could be on the roster bubble. Plus, he has stunk in camp and is not that talented to begin with. Alex Smith has not taken advantage of the situation he is in even though his skill set fits the Packers spread offense.
Now Cedric Benson has come into Pack camp and looks like the favorite to win the starting RB job. Benson has been reportedly kept himself in great shape and is motivated to prove that he still can be a productive RB in the NFL. In his first preseason action Benson clearly outplayed Green, as he gained over 6 yards a carry. Benson is not much more than a RB3/RB4, but running against defenses that will be playing the pass could warrant so big yardage. Hard to figure out what the Packers will do at the goaline, as they could go with Kuhn or just let Rodgers do his thing. Early in the Summer the Packers stated that they wanted a more balanced attack and now they may have found the guy to balance things out.
