2011 Recap: The Dolphins were probably thinking Daniel Thomas would be their bell cow in 2011 and Reggie would be the complimentary player. Not so fast. Thomas couldn’t stay healthy and after a slow start, Bush erupted in the second half of the season. His season high for rush yards going into last season was 581 and he finished with 1,097 yards (5.1 YPC), including 100 yard games in each of the last four games of the season. His receptions weren’t great, but he did finish with 43/296/1 for the season. Although he didn’t look great running in between the tackles, he was able to get to edge and created big gains with misdirection plays.
What’s Changed: The Dolphins have been under scrutiny this offseason by bringing in David Garrard and spending a high pick on QB project Ryan Tannehill. Joe Philbin was brought over from Green Bay to be the new HC and Mike Sherman is the new OC. With a new offense in place and a possibly new QB under center, the Dolphins offense may have some bumps in the road this season. Brandon Marshall was also shipped out and Chad Ochocinco is now the defacto #1 WR. Daniel Thomas is heading into training camp healthy and showed some juice when he wasn’t pulling a hammy. The Dolphins also brought in an explosive RB in the form of Lamar Miller, who has a similar skill set to Bush. So the passing game could regress and there will be more mouths to feed in the backfield.
Outlook: Bush has been s fragile as a China Doll over his career, but seemed to figure things out last season. With a new coaching staff and possibly one of the least talented offenses in the league, Reggie Bush is not someone I’m targeting in draft, especially as the 48th player off the board. We could see Tannehill behind center sooner, rather than later and Thomas/Miller will take opportunities away. It was a nice coming out party for Reggie, but I feel like the party could be over. If he slips to the end of the 6th or 7th round, then he has some value, but until then, let someone else take the former Kardashian.
