Don’t Sleep On: Danny Amendola

Thanks for not calling me a Wes Welker-type Juan…

2011 Recap:  Back in 2010, Amedola was PPR bliss with 85 receptions.  He’s not flashy, but is a reliable chain mover that will be a great outlet for Sam Bradford.  He was looking to build off his 2010 campaign in 2011, but an elbow injury in week one put him down for the count before the season even really started.

What’s Changed:  New HC Jeff Fisher comes to town and one thing he likes to do is run the ball.  Brian Schottenheimer will run the offense, but after a few inconsistent seasons with the Jets, it’s hard to know what the pass offense will look like.  Amendola is the type of receiver that makes receptions that are extensions of run plays, so he should regain that pre-injury form in 2012.

Outlook:  By all accounts Danny Amendola has shined in training camp, as onlookers at camp have called him the “clear #1″.  He should find his place with Brian Quick and Steve Smith out wide.  His preseason games have shown that is 100% healthy and he should be able to regain that PPR gold label of 2010.  It would not surprise me to see him with 85-90 catches this season if he stays healthy.  He can be had for the price of a ham sandwich, so there is little risk grabbing him late and seeing what he can do.
