2011 Recap: Nate Washington was an afterthought in fantasy drafts last season and probably for good reason. Kenny Britt was the guy to target and for good reason. Britt’s a freak. Nate’s a complimentary WR. Then Britt went out for the season in week 3 and Nate Washington went on to be the 14th overall in fantasy last season. 14th! That’s better than AJ Green, Julio Jones, Dez Bryant, Dwayne Bowe…you get the idea. It was sneaky good. With 1,023 yards and 8 TDs (1 rush) he had his best season as a pro.
What’s Changed: The Titans drafted Kendall Wright in the first round to be a deep threat in the offense. This was Washington’s biggest strength last season, although he did improve his overall game quite a bit. The big reason this is even getting written right now is the knees of Kenny Britt. Not only did he have MAJOR knee surgery this offseason, but he also has now had BOTH knees scoped in the past few months. His “non-injured” knee was just scoped. Not good news for a big comeback season from a guy who’s work ethic is constantly questioned. I would like Washinton even more if Locker was locked down as the starter over Baldy. He caught 4 TDs of his 7 TDs with Locker in limited duty. To go into more detail, in games where Locker had “significant” snaps Washington had 22/306/4. Pretty amazing chemistry.
Outlook: Kenny Britt’s knees are being kept together by duct tape and rubber bands right now, so Nate Washington could be the defacto #1 WR to start the season. Kendall Wright is talented, but he is still just a rookie. Jared Cook is a freak, but he has yet to put it all together. Damian Williams could still threaten as well. Now, Nate Washington pretty is what is he is and there is not a ton of upside with him, but he could end up the most productive fantasy WR on the Titans in 2012. If Jake Locker starts every game, we could be looking at a bonified sleeper. Worth a shot in the later rounds of your draft when people are grabbing kickers and defenses.
