Juan On An Island: Marques Colston

I’m a forgotten man Juan..

The Saints, well more like Brees is going to throw for close to 5,000 yards and 35 plus TDs this season by all indications, right?  So why is everyone forgetting about the #1 WR on possibly the most proficient passing team in the NFL?   I mean Jimmy Graham is not going to catch every pass…

Drew Brees broke records for attempts, completions, and yards last season and I’m not expecting a huge dropoff despite the fact that Sean Payton is on lock down in 2012.  Colston can play on the outside, but the Saints line him up in the slot where hhe is able to take advantage of matchups, much like his teammates Darren Sproles and Jimmy Graham do.  With defenses already giving so much attention to Sproles/Graham, Colston should find himself with favorable matchups in every game.

In 2011 he received 24 fewer targets, but finished with 80/1143/8 on the season, despite missing the first 2 games of the season with a broken clavicle.  His points per game (11.6) put him at 8th amongst WRs, but where is the love in 2012?  He’s healthy, playing with a new contract, Meachem is staying classy, and we still have OC Pete Carmichael calling the shots with Brees playing surgeon.  It would not surprise me to see him finish in the top 10 by any stretch of the imagination.  Don’t forget about Marques is your fantasy drafts.
