I was reading Twitter today and some guy with like 200 followers said something like ‘I was just talking about Vincent Brown on my podcast last night, and now all the ‘experts’ are all over him this morning’. Yeah buddy, because no one has common sense and can see that once DX went down and Floyd got banged up, that someone had to step up for the Chargers passing game. Must be that podcast that set us all free.
Vincent Brown has never really done anything in the NFL and it’s not like he has great physical talents either. It’s all about the opportunity and how his skill set fits into what the Chargers will do on offense.
“He runs great great routes, he’s strong to the ball, he has huge hands, he has range, and he’s a guy you trust,” Rivers said. “I know he’s anxious to play. He probably feels like it’s taken forever to get his career started, and in a lot of ways, it feels that way.”
“We always talk about ‘Vincent Brown, Vincent Brown.’ The guys know him, how good he is. You’d think he’s played for four or five years, but he really hasn’t.”
New head coach Mike McCoy is changing the scheme and installing a more quick pass offense that will utilize Brown’s best qualities. This is probably a good idea considering Rivers has been running for his life the last couple of seasons. McCoy is liking how Brown is asserting himself in the offense.
“He works extremely hard,” coach Mike McCoy said. “He’s one of those kids you’ve got to pull back a little bit in the offseason and early in camp. He’s starting to get in his groove a little bit. He and Philip are getting more work. It’s a process. It’s not easy to come back from certain injuries. … He knows what his opportunity is.”
Rivers is running out of options at WR. Even with Floyd, they are still short a true #1. Brown will be his #1 target this season out wide and could provide some really nice upside for you in the later rounds.
“He’s an easy guy to throw the ball to,” Rivers said. “He’s so smooth, so strong to the ball, so sharp. … If he can be out there on a consistent basis, which obviously if he is healthy he will be, people are going to say, ‘Shoot, he’s one of the staples of (their) offense.’”
Thank god for that podcast last night, otherwise, none of us would of known who Vincent Brown even is. Thanks buddy.
